About Us

The Fifth District is a collective of artists, technologists and rogue geniuses based in New York City. We include writers and programmers, animators and researchers, musicians and scientists; we collectively have experience in game design and graphic design, literary composition and musical composition, teaching and outreach and performance and much more.

We believe that play is important. We believe that art should be fun. We believe that machines can be art. We believe that people are not machines. We believe in craftsmanship. We believe in being nice to strangers. We believe in growing up without growing old. We believe that musicians should be talking to programmers who should be talking to biologists who should be talking to artists. We believe that we can make all this happen - and we do.

If you have a project that crosses the boundaries of traditional disciplines, we're here to help. The Fifth District is available for hire at reasonable rates. Tell us what you're looking for, and we'll put together a team that suits your needs. Many individual members of The Fifth District are also available for freelance work; contact information is available to the left.
